GlobalMobility

A global relocation can raise questions about employment eligibility, language barriers, cultural differences, and much more. At the same time, the cost to an employer for a failed relocation increases significantly. Vandover’s team of global relocation specialists can assist employees and families in navigating the global transition, exploring employment opportunities, and creating a new life in the host country.

As with our domestic U.S. services, Vandover’s first step is a Complimentary Needs Assessment to understand the needs of the relocating individual or family. This open-ended, relationship-building conversation aims to identify the family’s background and concerns related to relocation and then create an action plan to address those needs. Following the complimentary needs assessment, services may include the following.

  • The possibility of an international move raises many questions related to both the spouse’s career and the family’s lifestyle. Vandover’s Global Pre-Decision Assistance program is designed to help answer those questions. Whether related to career potential, work permits, education programs, community resources, or other questions, Vandover provides research and consultant support to assist the family in making their decision.
  • When work permits or visas allow for employment in the new location, Spouse Career Assistance begins with a career history, skills, and interests assessment followed by consultant support in finding employment. Support may include developing a new résumé or curriculum vitae, providing information on global professional associations or licensing requirements, and other areas of support for career transition in the new country.
  • Career Continuation Assistance is designed for those transferees who are not eligible or not interested in working while on a global assignment. Research and support is focused on keeping transferees up-to-date on professional skills and knowledge so that employment opportunities upon return remain available. Support may include research on volunteer work, networking events, speaking engagements, or publishing opportunities, in addition to ongoing career coaching support from a consultant.
  • A global assignment can bring significant changes to daily life. Global Lifestyle Resource Assistance supports single employees, spouses/partners, and families in transitioning to the new community. Transferees may be searching for civic or charitable organizations, special interest or hobby groups, or ways to stay connected with their home country. Vandover helps locate the information and activities that will make the lifestyle in the new country as full and rewarding as before the move.

The majority of Vandover’s services are delivered via our centralized telephonic delivery structure, which allows us to offer services anywhere they are needed, without concern for geographic limitations. Vandover has been providing services in this manner to transitioning employees and their families for more than 20 years, and the high level of customer satisfaction illustrates the success of our delivery model. Global relocating spouses also are provided the option of on-ground/in-person career transition services through Vandover’s partnership with NetExpat, which offers on-ground locations in nearly 40 countries.
